Wed 6 Jan 2027 10.00 am     Main Meeting     Intelligence by Jim Ellis

Details We’d all agree that Einstein was intelligent, but what does that really mean? Is it just about knowing lots of things or is it more complex? Jim will discuss intelligence and intelligence tests, present some examples (audience participation welcome!) and dispel some myths. He will also consider whether there are different forms of intelligence – might it be that leading artists, performers, authors, composers, entrepreneurs, sports-people, etc, are just as ‘intelligent’ as Einstein in their own specialist field? Jim’s career progressed from RAF radar technician, guided missiles and instructing to becoming an Education & Training Officer. In this role, he was an electronics and maths lecturer, IT systems analyst and a specialist in the design and use of computer-based learning. After leaving the RAF he continued with computer and online learning in the commercial sector – as an analyst, designer and project manager – before joining the Open University in 2003 as Head of Interactive Media. Here he gained a Doctorate in Education, researching into the design of online learning materials, and was Head of Learning Design until his retirement in 2018.
