Details Yvonne Lawrence talks about Chelmsford.“A tale of fire, water & waste” tells the intertwined stories how how Chelmsford managed to survive by providing fresh water, managing all the waste that comes with human habitation and the ever-present threat of fire. In the days before clean running water on tap, flushing toilets & sewers, a national health service and fire brigades, who had the power to decide what the town needed - and who paid for it all? In many cases, the stories bring together all three strands, never more so than in the story of the ‘great fire of Chelmsford’.
