Information Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based programme that involves weekly group classes and daily mindfulness exercises to practice at home, over an 8-week period. MBSR teaches people how to increase mindfulness by becoming more aware of the workings of the mind and, in doing so, recognise that there are several choice points to prevent your mind from slipping back into old patterns. One of the main approaches for learning about this is the practice of mindfulness mediation and movement. A number of different practices are covered over the 8 weeks, and you will be helped to discover which ones are most helpful to you. We simply ask that you try all of the mediations in the class and at home. The class also provides an opportunity to care for yourself by being kind and gentle with each new learning that may occur during the process. MBSR has been shown to be helpful in managing pain, long term conditions, menopause, sleep problems and stress. You MUST attend an induction session prior to joining the course. This will take place on Friday 3rd October at 09.30 in the Tiffey Room. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

Enquiries rkrieger@talktalk.net
Information You don't need to be an opera aficionado, the aim of the group is to learn about opera and watch some excellent performances. We spend one month learning about an opera and its composer and the following month watching a recording of it. Some operas are quite long so we start at 1:30 or 2:00 and finish at 4:30 or 5:00. In the month we spend studying the opera, each member contributes, having spent some time carry out a small amount of research in advance. The aspect researched depends on the member's knowledge and interests. (If you have no knowledge of opera, don't worry, you can still find out a little about an opera.
