| Information | | The group looks into aspects of history, whether they be local, national or international. Nothing is off-limits! In addition, the history of a particular organisation or system might be considered. We may also look at the life and work of an eminent historian or investigate an historical
methodology or approach.
Our members take turns to research a theme of their choosing, and present their findings to the group; discussion and comment generally follow. We occasionally might make a visit to somewhere of historical interest - recent outings have been to Sackville College and the East
Grinstead Museum.
Examples of topics covered by members in the recent past have included:-
The Poor Laws, The legacy of Christopher Wren, history of the BBC, conscientious objectors, the life & times of Bertrand Russell, the history of smuggling, the Seven Years War, Catherine of Aragon, history of Croydon Aerodrome, Women in history, the development of the Welfare State in the UK, Clement Attlee, some aspects of Chinese history, history of the WI, trade in the 18th & 19th centuries, the medieval wool trade, especially in Kent, major social changes in the 20th century. |
