Afternoon Tea

Information We meet once a month a visit cafes within approximately 10-12 mils of Pembury. This is a very friendly group who enjoy a cuppa, a piece of cake and a natter and of course a good laugh. We car share as far as possible to save on fuel.

Amble

Information Our aim is to encourage people to join our very friendly walking group. This is not a route march but an amble through our beautiful countryside. We finish our walk in time for a lunch in either a pub or a cafe.

Bird Watching

Information We share our local countryside with a wide variety of different species of birds; some of which are permanent residents (Robins, Tits etc.) and some seasonal visitors (Blackcaps, Cuckoos, etc.). The Birdwatching Group meets on a monthly basis either visiting local parks and nature reserves or watching instructive videos. None of us regard ourselves as expert “twitchers” but we enjoy short walks looking out for interesting and unusual birds and sharing our observations.

Book Circle 1

Information We meet in Pembury Village Hall. Our books, usually fiction, are provided by Pembury Library. We meet monthly to air our thoughts on the book we have just read, with the help of internet reviews, and coffee and biscuits; and talk about possible future books to read.

Book Group 2

Information We are the second of three Pembury U3A book groups. We meet in Pembury Library on the 1st Friday of each month until August when we will be changing to the 3rd Thursday afternoon of the Month. We read a wide range of genre. The subject matter of the title can be challenging. We do not presume that everyone will finish the monthly title and that some of the content can be difficult depending on life experiences. We respect everyones point of view and have a thought provoking and lively discussion at our meetings.

Book Group 3

Information We are a new book group, We meet at Pembury, Library who also kindly order our books, which means there is no cost involved in accessing our reading material. We meet on the 4th Thursday of the month at 2pm We are a friendly informal group and take in turns to choose the next book, which helps mix up the tastes and genres

Bridge

Information Beginners, returners and improvers all welcome. We play social bridge for fun. If you get bitten by the bug you can go on to play competitively at the Pembury Bridge Club. We meet weekly, on Monday mornings, in the Pembury Cricket club, 10 am to 12 30 pm.

Climate Change

Information In members home at present.Due to size of the group we now meet in the committee room at the village hall. The group has decided on a variety of topics about Climate Change. It is a lively and very vocal group and is determined to share any substantiated evidence to our members. Please note this group has had its first meeting in January and may change as the climate does!! This group has now added "Local Environment" to its title. sometimes referred to as "Ccandle" group. Work out why??

Cribbage

Information A Classic card game which can be enjoyed by experienced and completely novice players. This is a very friendly group which will make everybody feel welcome

Croquet

Information Held at Brenchley Memorial Hall Old Cricket Field on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month. Fee £3.00 per session which contributes to green preparation and equipment.

Darts

Information If you would like to play darts. Come and join us, if you have never played, come and try it out. We are all on differed levels. It is a FUN afternoon. No need to bring your own darts . Looking forwould to seeing you sone.

Digital Photography

Information Our group meets monthly at the Village Hall on the second Tuesday to share members photos from the previous month and discuss how we can improve our images during shooting and in post production. Meets at Village Hall.

Dog Walking

Information This group is for anyone who would like to join with fellow dog-owners when out walking. It is not organised by any one person. Those, who wish to join this group will be given contact details of the others in the group, so that dog-walking can be informally arranged.

Drawing

Information This is a small group of people who like to draw faces. We learn from each other and its a very friendly group.

Embroidery

Information Meets in a member's home. Members work on their own embroidery projects, share ideas and help eachother when necessary.

Film Club

Information The meeting room at the Village Hall is small ( with seating for up to 32 ). However, it is an ideal venue to show films with a large wall screen and enough space to set up the required equipment including a digital projector and stereo sound system. Each screening is of full length feature film, either a recent release or a classic , always with a mid film interval. Members bring their own refreshments. Current subscription to cover all 10 screenings per season was £17.00 per member , but will most likely be reduced for the 2024/25 season.

French

Information The French Group meet, when convenient, at the leader's house on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday afternoon of the month. During the first hour we discuss current affairs, and give personal news, all in French. After a tea break we translate from the magazine "Rendez-vous". The magazine has a team in Paris, and contains views and news of French people on topical matters. In this month's edition there is an account of the preparation necessary for the coming Olympic Games in Paris; and also a description of some of the museums one can visit.

Garden Visits

Information Being in the 'Garden of England' there are lots of beautiful gardens within easy distance to visit. Several times a year this group share cars to visit a garden, usually stopping for lunch if there are eating facilites. (Petrol costs estimated at 50p per mile and shared by the number of passengers in the car.)

Guitar Beginners

Information This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 2pm. At present we meet at the leader's home. Guitar beginners only. I will teach some basic chords. Sing and play to well-known tunes. No performances, just join in for fun. We use free websites with guitar chords and lyrics. For complete beginners only at the moment.

Harmony Singers

Information This friendly fun group is about 40 singers in total. Our members come from 4 neighbouring u3a s - Pembury, Paddock Wood, Kingshill and West Malling. We rehearse on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 1.30-3.30pm, with a tea/coffee break, in Nettlestead Village Hall. There are no auditions and you don't need to be able to read music, just to enjoy singing with others. We have a lot of fun and laughs and sing in harmony - hence our name ! Why not come along and try us out - find your voice again and learn to sing, sometimes in harmony !

Military History

Information Our small, friendly group of men and women have a shared interest in all aspects of military, aviation, and maritime history during the period spanning Classical times to the present. The subject is broad, offering the prospect of something for everyone, since the cause, conduct, outcome and consequences of individual battles, campaigns or conflicts are influenced by factors including geo-politics, technological development, and human behaviour.

Needles and Pins

Information The group usually meets at Janet's house. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Members bring along whatever needlework they are working on. (This can be knitting, sewing, embroidery, etc). They can get help at the group as required. Recently we have also been contributing to the postbox toppers.

Painting for Fun 1

Information This group has been meeting for many years and has become a "Paint and Natter" group. Members bring their own work or select a picture from a folder and work at their own speed. The mediums used vary. The group leader offers help and advice when requested and occasionally leads a small group in a topic they request. Sessions are held in the meeting Room in the Village Hall so the hire charge is covered by a single payment per term of £15 per member in the first session. This also covers refreshments and any occasional materials provided. Members usually bring their own paper, paints etc. The year consists of 3 terms with short breaks between them. The emphasis is still on lrarning and trying new techniques and media but mainly the enjoyment painting gives.

Painting for Fun 2

Information This group has been meeting for some years but is still taught each session. A theme is planned for the term which introduces a new technique or medium. The group is held in the meeting room of the Village Hall from 9.45 to 12noon on the second and fourth Friday every month except April and August when we have a break. Members supply their own equipment and materials unless specially supplied by the leader. We have to pay hire charges for the room so there is a termly payment of £15 which includes refreshments and any special materials supplied. There are 3 terms per year. This started as a group learning to paint with watercolour but we have expanded into several other media and also explore mixed media.

Painting for Fun 3

Information This group has been learning for about 5 years and started with watercolour but now covers other media when applicable. We cover a large range of topics from landscapes, buildings, still life, flowers and some head and figure work. Sessions are held in the meeting Room of the Village hall from 9.45 to 12noon on the 2nd and 4th Monday each month (Except April and August when we have a break). The cost per term is £15 which covers the room hire charge as well as refreshments and any materials supplied.

Information This small friendly group like to experiment with new patchwork designs and then make them up into lap quilts for charity. We have donated to the Hospice and a Women's Refuge, as well as making baby quilts for the Neonatal Unit at Pembury Hospital.

Play Reading

Information Our monthly meeting takes place in the Meeting Room of Pembury Village Hall at 2.30pm to 4.30pm on the 4th Tuesday of each month except December. The cost of hire is shared by the members. Play scripts to use are obtained free on loan from KCC Drama Library, who have a long list of script sets available for loan. We share the reading out as we go through a play

Ramble 3-6 miles

Information Meets fourth Monday of each month. We meet at 9.30 am in the recreation ground car park and share cars to the start of a 3 - 6 mile walk, with sometimes a pub lunch at the end. Or you can drive direct to the start point, please let the leader know! What could be better than a bit of exercise in our beautiful Kent countryside? We try to keep our walks as local as we can, but do have a few longer drives to our starting point. Most walks include stiles, and walking by the side of roads (some busy). We do not include dogs on these walks. Due to a lot of Pubs not opening on a Monday, some walks do not include a pub lunch.

Ramble 6-8 miles

Information This group is for more energetic ramblers who are happy to walk up to 8 miles, at a slightly faster speed than the 4-6 mile rambling group. Stiles and steep gradients should not present a problem.

Information The venue changes each month. Information will be sent out on the Monday of that week advising where the meeting will be for that month. Its a coming together to play scrabble, learn, share knowledge and have fun while playing.

Sewing Bee

Information A friendly group of mixed abilities and experience but with the common interest of sewing. This includes making garments from scratch, alterations and repairs as well as soft furnishings. Hire costs for the Scout Hut are split between us and tea/coffee/biscuits provided. Currently meeting at the Scout Hut where there is plenty of dedicated parking.

Social Wine 2 VM

Information This group meets at a member's home. Members take it in turns to provide a selection of wines to be tased and commented on.

Walking Cricket

Information Walking Cricket operates in the Summer months. We play on the grass in the Recreation Ground on a suitably sized pitch. Rules are very simple and all equipment is provided. This will help with eye to ball coordination, balance and aerobic exercise, whilst having fun at the same time.Ladies AND gents welcome!

Walking football

Information This is a new group we are setting up. It is for both men and women, so whatever your skill in football, come along and try it out. We need someone who will be willing to organise this group. Details will then be sent out to members.

Walking Netball

Information Walking Netball is held at the basketball pitch in the Recreation Ground. No running or jumping, but gentle competitive exercise. We meet all year round, weather permitting. We do not play during school holidays so that the MUGA is available for young people in Pembury. No experience necessary. A good social activity and great fun. All equipment is provided, you just need to have appropriate footwear. Always room for more!

Wine Enjoyment

Information Our group is hosted progressively by it's membership in their houses. Each host selects four wines, usually one white, one rose and two reds and writes a very brief summary of each (notes on bottle help and usually some additional info on P,C./Laptop/tablet/or mobile). This is given to each member (useful to mark which one's you like!)
