Topics covered have included: show not tell, points of view, scene setting, using your own experiences and the use of visual triggers, to name but a few of the recurring themes. This group is not about teaching how, it is about helping; to explore the possibilities, to improve your writing and sharing the enjoyment of creative writing for its own sake. AIM: To become a better writer! OBJECTIVES: To gain in confidence in writing To learn to feel OK exploring different styles of writing or subjects or genres: sometimes writing outside one’s comfort zone To encourage one another’s writing with positive criticism so everyone progresses To gain insight into one’s writing strengths and weaknesses House Rules: Respect everyone’s varied skill/experience level Listen to each other fairly: one person speaking at a time Treat as confidential anything which is shared in the group No dissemination outside the group (authors’ copyright) Be aware that extraneous reminiscences can be distracting Stick to the agreed word limit Send writing in advance by email if possible; bring copies Feedback constructively Enjoy!
