Information We all read the same book and discuss it over a cup of tea. The book list is picked by the members in December for the following year.

Christmas Lunch Hogarths 2023

Information This years Festive lunch will be held at Hogarth's. The cost is maintained the same as last year at £30 per head. This is a lovely venue and it was very much appreciated by those attending last year.

Coffee Morning

Cookery Club

Information Cookery Club where members have the opportunity to share recipes and ideas at our monthly meetings, and share their cakes and dishes with the group members from the planned monthly theme.

Information This group is used to maintain a list of members attending each core meeting. The members list will be amended for each core meeting so that the attendees can be downloaded to provide the attendance register.

Core Meetings/AGM Set Up Group

Information This Group is responsible for preparing the venue for our Olton & District monthly Core Meetings and AGM, ensuring that the appropriate equipment is available, and clearing away afterwards.

Craft and Chat

Information We meet on the 4th Thursday of the month at Olton Library. Everyone brings along something they are working on, which ranges from knitting, diamond art and many more besides. We chat about projects new and old, sharing expertise and experience with fellow members over a cup of tea.

Creative Writing

Information Creative writing group for members who wish to get started or improve their writing skills and creativity. Cycling     

When 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month

Information The group is run by Solihull Central u3a. Members of Olton and District u3a are also welcome. There is usually a local ride on the first Wednesday of the month. We meet in the car park of Tudor Grange Leisure Centre at 10:00. The rides are usually 20 to 25 miles. The third Wednesday of each month, weather permitting, there is an away day ride. These involve driving, or occasionally using the train, to a starting point further afield. More detailed information is circulated before each ride. About 12 people attend a ride and most have electric cycles. (Not essential) Suitable clothing for cycling and a helmet needed. There is a mixture of road and off road cycling. Expect a café en-route. There is no charge for cycling.

Discussion Group

Information This group is newly formed and will meet initially bi monthly. The format of discussion is yet to be agreed to form the Code of Practice for members. The meeting will be held at The Friary St. Bernard;s Road in a small room at the side to the rear of the main building. There will be tea and coffee during the meeting which will last for approximately 90 minutes. Cost of the meeting will be £2 plus.

Family History

Information Family History Group meeting on the 4th Monday of the month in the IT Room at Solihull Library 10-12.3m. No meetings in May and August due to Library Bank Holiday closure. Beginners welcome.

First Aid 2024

Information This is a basic First Aid course for anyone who is a member of Olton and District u3a. It will last for 3 hours and is certificated to say that you ave participated in the course. There will be instruction of slip, spills CPR. The course will be taken by a fully qualified instructor.

TR Southwell 2025

Information The first trip of 2025 on Wednesday 26 March which will be a visit to the Workhouse and Infirmary at Southwell followed by a short transfer to Southwell Minster. The cost will be £23.50 pp which includes a tip for the driver (£2 extra for anyone who is not a member of the u3a) The Workhouse is a National Trust property and therefore free entry for National Trust members. Non National Trust members will be charged £15. The Minster is free to enter but they would appreciate a donation towards the upkeep of the building. They recommend £5. Departure from Olton Friary should be 9:15 for arrival at approximately 10:45. Everyone can take their time looking round this very interesting property and can have a light lunch in the cafe before boarding the coach at 2pm for the very short transfer to the Minster. We will leave Southwell at 4pm to return to Olton. Please email me if you wish to join us and include your u3a membership number and whether you are a National Trust member. Payment details will be forwarded at a later date. Please remember that once the coach hire charge has been paid we will not be able to offer refunds.

Information Ukulele Group for members to have fun and enjoy being part of this lively Group. The Group meets every Thursday morning, usually in Room 5, at Solihull Methodist Church. Walking

Information Walks normally 4 to 5 miles in length. We aim to walk at a comfortable pace for all participants. Walks usually include field paths and places can be muddy, so waterproof walking boots are recommended. Everyone is welcome, though we do not allow dogs on walks. Lunch is usually available at the end of a walk. Notes about the next walk available at the General Meetings. See the Calendar for planned walks. Volunteer leaders always welcome.
