It’s often associated with older populations, but people of all ages and abilities can benefit from practicing in a chair. Working in the chair makes the practice of yoga more accessible, but it also gives an added edge of support and reduces the risk of falls during exercise. It can also assist with alignment, making postures that are traditionally done on the floor more possible in a chair.

Chess & Backgammon

When 1st & 3rd Monday
Normally meets 10:00 to 12:00
Information CHESS We are a friendly mixed ability group. Players meet in our dining room. There are usually about 5 people. You do not need a partner. If it is an odd number Alex will play against 2 players. We start with refreshments and a chat. We take chess seriously but there is still plenty of laughing! We ask people to donate £1 per session to help with refreshments and other expenses. We are happy to teach beginners and welcome improvers. BACKGAMMON We meet in a room apart from the house, but still in the same grounds. This group was started at the beginninng of Ravenshead u3a. All except 1 member were total beginners. I give each player £1000 (Manopoly money). Backgammon is a gambling game, hence the Manopoly money but it is hard for people to gamble even with pretend money. As we have all been playing sometime we have got faster and so we now have refreshments in the middle and a chat and then play Rummicubs. Anyone wishing to carry on with backgammon it is ok. Also gives me time if we have new beginners. There is a lot of laughing , some of which is quite raucous! Any one wishing to join us is very welcome no matter their level. Hope to see you.
